THE CHOSEN Reaches 10 Million People In Madagascar: ‘Beautiful’
By Movieguide® Contributor
THE CHOSEN continues to bring the truth of Jesus around the world, most recently being broadcast to 10 million people in Madagascar.
“We’ve had a special partnership there that enabled us to be the first TV show to ever be translated into Malagasy this summer and we launched on broadcast TV,” Kyle Young, vice president of global distribution, told Deseret News. “And the estimates are that over 10 million people in Madagascar watched the series this summer on TV.”
“We need you to understand how beautiful this is,” THE CHOSEN shared on Instagram with a video of the Malagasy people watching the show. “Madagascar has never had an American TV show dubbed in their language. Heck, 75% of the country has no electricity and hasn’t even see a movie or TV show.”
The post continued, explaining how THE CHOSEN specifically relates to those who live in Madagascar.
“But here’s the beautiful part…this is a video of 3,000 orphans watching Abigail and Joshua meet Jesus for the first time. A Jesus these orphans were moved by because he, like them, brushes his teeth in the river, makes his own food, and carves wood. You’ll see in this video, particularly at the end, something that is wrecking all of us: words we wrote, performances we captured, and a scene we filmed, because of contributions by you, made 3,000 orphans laugh.”
The series continues to find success around the world.
“We’ve been in the top 10 on Amazon since we launched there in July. We were the No. 1 TV series this summer on the CW, airing every Sunday night, as they’ve been bringing their audience up to speed with the series starting with Season 1,” Young added. “We’ve actually launched in 12 new territories around the world. We’ve launched in places well-known and big TV markets like Spain, France and Poland.”
As the series continues to find success around the world, fans are looking forward to Season 4.
Movieguide® previously reported on what you can expect from the next season:
THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins revealed that season 4 will have more sorrow mixed with joy as the series reaches its halfway mark and Jesus’ journey continues toward the cross.
“We’re getting closer and closer to what we know is coming,” Jenkins told Fox News. “There’s some extreme pain and sadness that’s coming soon in future seasons.”
“And of course, there’s also some extreme joy that’s coming. But on the way there, Jesus is getting increasingly sad because of the fact that things are getting increasingly heavy,” he continued.
The director told the Christian Post that Jesus sees that his friends and followers don’t understand why He’s here. “They’re not hearing Him correctly when He tells them explicitly what’s coming, and that breaks his heart,” Jenkins explained.
