The Faith-Based Reason Kat Von D Is Covering All Her Tattoos

Kat Von D is opening up about the “satisfying” process of blacking out many of her tattoos.

“I think I had been fed up with a lot of the tattoos I got over the years for a long time,” she told Inked Magazine. “I just couldn’t explain how satisfying it was to see all the messes [tattoo artist Hoode] would clean up with his blackout tattoo work.”

Von D continued, “I think at that time I thought I would just black out an arm, but shortly after, I knew I would end up tattooing my whole body.”

She shared more about the process of blacking out her tattoos in an Instagram post, writing, “Just know that I absolutely LOVE it, and it’s extremely refreshing for me to see all the garbage, drunken tattoos I had scribbled all over my leg that I got before I became sober, be covered by sleekness and simplicity.”

This isn’t the only major change Von D has made. The former tattoo artist has been very vocal about her newfound faith.

“Baptism was a public demonstration of where I stand with my faith and basically letting people know that I’m not ashamed,” she said in a video explaining her decision to post about her baptism online. “And so that’s why I really wanted to share it with people…Baptism is so beautiful and it’s such a big landmark in time. For me, at least, it was one of the most important days of my life.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Von D’s faith:

Tattoo artist Kat Von D is sharing her faith journey.

“I kind of…give [my husband] the credit,” she said while appearing on Allie Beth Stuckey’s “Relatable” podcast. “I came downstairs and he just said, ‘Hey, babe, I think we got it wrong. I think we got a lot of things wrong.’”

She and her husband started watching videos and reading articles, working to figure things out.

“I started just kind of reevaluating, kind of going down the list of what I’m doing with my life and what my perspectives are,” Von D explained. “A friend had sent me a sermon from Pastor Jack Hibbs, and I loved it. It really spoke to me and answered a lot of questions I had.”

From there, she and her family started “watching sermons every Sunday.”

“I just desired more and more and more, and so I just started studying the Bible,” Von D said.

The tattoo artist shared that she was raised in a Christian home, which gave her a strong foundation for her faith, but added, “When you can fall in love and learn as an adult, it’s much more meaningful than when you’re a child, just doing it because this is what we do, you know?”

“I’m on fire for Jesus,” Von D concluded. “I don’t plan on this dimming out. The more and more I learn, the more and more excited I get about things and the more at ease I am about what’s happening in this world.”
