These GAF Stars Want You to Know: ‘This Is the Year to Get Closer to God’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actors Carlos and Alexa PenaVega are sharing some of their New Year’s encouragement with Great American Family fans.
“We wanted to just share some encouragement because 2025 is coming up and we are just… you know what? I’m feeling it. I think this is the year to get closer to God for all of us,” Carlos shared in a Jan. 15 video on Great American Family.
“God is so good,” Alexa said. “He has just been with us. He walked with us through this year. We had a pretty difficult year as a family.”
The couple lost their daughter, Indy Rex, in April 2024. After a rough pregnancy, Indy was stillborn.
It “was really really hard to navigate, but God gave us so much peace in this season. And we just really want to encourage you to dive deep with him,” she said. “Surround yourself with like-minded community who can just pour into you, and you can be on that race toward the kingdom together.”
They shared 1 Corinthians 9:24: “‘In a race, all runners run, but only one gets the prize. Run in such a way as to get the prize.’ May that be your New Year resolution,” Alexa said.
“Run. Don’t walk,” Carlos added.

The PenaVegas and their three kids moved to Tennessee in early 2024 after living in Hawaii and at sea on their boat. This year, they got to experience snow.
They shared photos of their family all bundled up, building a gigantic snowman and playing with the snow and their family pet.
Carlos said, “I think it’s safe to say the PenaVega fam is even more in love with Tennessee after these last couple days …💜 ❄️ 🏠 #snowday.”
The couple’s last GAF movie was GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS, which came out last month. Carlos and Alexa star as romantic leads.
Of the movie Carlos shared, “We have tons of original music and let me tell you…you will LOVE this movie 🙂 A fresh take on a Christmas love story with a fun ensemble cast!!! We were blessed with being able to shoot one whole day at #attstadium… Not to mention shining a light on all the good that @salvationarmyus does in the world. It’s the full package!!!”
The couple also served as executive producers in the movie.
Alexa told Parade, “We’ve always wanted to be filmmakers. I think it feels impossible sometimes. As we got older, as we started having kids and diving deeper into our faith, we kind of found that a lot of the projects that we wanted to take which were more family-friendly were either very cheesy and we were not passionate about those projects, or they were a little bit too risqué [where] I would be a little sad if my kids ever watched their mom in that movie. So, we were looking for a balance.” And they found it with Great American Family.
