THE PRICE IS RIGHT Host Drew Carey Doesn’t Plan on Retiring: ‘Not Going Anywhere’

Drew Carey has no plans of leaving THE PRICE IS RIGHT—ever.

The 65-year-old host expressed his love and commitment to the show in an interview with ET.

“I want to die on stage with a microphone in my hand,” Carey joked.

Carey took over as host of the classic game show in 2007 when Bob Barker retired. Barker had been the host since the show began airing in 1972.

“I’m not going anywhere. I think Bob made a mistake by retiring. I’m not gonna make that same mistake,” the WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY star shared. “As long as my heart is ticking and they want me to be on the show, I think I’m gonna do THE PRICE IS RIGHT. I just love it.”

Movieguide® reported:

“When Drew Carey replaced Bob Barker as the host of PRICE IS RIGHT, the show had a relatively smooth transition. Carey had been semi-retired from television when he was approached to take over the show in 2007. He had become a household name thanks to the nine-year run of his sitcom THE DREW CAREY SHOW.  Carey was initially hesitant to replace Barker whose 35 years as host had made him seem irreplaceable.”

Barker died in August 2023 at the age of 99. After his passing, Carey paid tribute to the TV legend.

“He was so good at this,” Carey said while on set. “He was so good at relating to people and getting them to be relaxed and be themselves. You watch his demeanor and his attitude. He never seemed stressed. I’ve learned to relax while I’m onstage and not be so uptight about what’s going on. I just have to own the show and make it like my living room, because he was so comfortable in front of a camera.”
