THE WAY HOME SEASON 3 Will Air on Hallmark Channel After All
By Movieguide® Contributor
Hallmark recently announced that Season 3 of its popular time travel series THE WAY HOME will move from the channel to its streaming platform, Hallmark+, but after some loud complaints from fans, it’s back on the channel.
“For Season 3, while Hallmark has backtracked on shoving the time travel series to its streaming service,” Cinema Blend said, “the window they’ve decided THE WAY HOME should air in happens to be Friday night” instead of Saturday night, as the previous seasons did.
Variety reported that when fans heard the news it would only be available on Hallmark+, they complained about the idea of purchasing another streaming service. Some fans even threatened to boycott the series.
But then Hallmark announced on X: “ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to overwhelming demand, the entire season 3 of #TheWayHome will premiere on Hallmark Channel starting Friday, January 3 at 9/8c and then you can stream it next day on @HallmarkPlus!”
Cinema Blend critiques the channel’s choice to air on Fridays instead of Saturdays.

“Throwing it on Friday night kind of feels like the network is burning the series off rather than letting it shine. Or, given it is going to Hallmark+ the next day, maybe they are hoping that convenience will be enough for some to subscribe?” CB said.
“Perhaps the average audience for THE WAY HOME is similar to something like BLUE BLOODS or FIRE COUNTRY — both shows that managed to attract an audience on Fridays despite it being considered a ‘death slot’ for years…Hallmark’s SVP Lisa Hamilton Daly brought THE WAY HOME with her when she exited Netflix and the rest is history. It’s easy to see why this one has earned quick renewals. It’s simply a good show, not just a good Hallmark show,” CB said.
The new season will focus on:
Kat and her brother Jacob, who went missing more than two decades ago at the age of eight and is now an adult, poised to walk into the Landry home to an unsuspecting Del,” Hallmark said. “Viewers will be introduced to a groovy new era when the pond transports Kat and Alice to 1974 – the year Del and Colton (Brown) first met as teens and their epic love story began. Alice is befriended by a young, spritely Evelyn Goodwin (Cecchetto) but their budding friendship complicates Alice’s relationship with Del, who wants her memories of Colton to remain the way they are. Meanwhile, Kat attempts to close the door on the 1800s after making startling discoveries. In the present day she and Elliot (Williams) navigate a new chapter in their relationship, while he finds himself faced with his own complicated past.
