This ’70s Crooner Just Got a Mini-Me for His Las Vegas Residency
By Movieguide® Contributor
With a little help from AI tools, Donny Osmond is bringing along his 14-year-old self to his Las Vegas residency.
“We are going to be making history together,” the “Puppy Love” singer said in an Instagram video Wednesday. “Can you imagine sharing the stage with your 14-year-old self? Thanks to some mind-blowing AI and CGI technology, I’m going to be talking and singing with Donny Osmond — you know, the one from 1972.”
In the clip, Osmand sits next to his 14-year-old self, who’s in full-on ’70s wardrobe.
“What does it feel like to sing with yourself 50 years in the future?” Osmand asked the boy.
The boy said it was like singing with his grandpa.
“I am your grandpa,” he answered. “You’re my grandson, Daxton Osmond.”
With a snap of his fingers, the AI filter masking Daxton’s voice and face dropped.
“Well, I guess I am Daxton Osmond,” Daxton answered, snapping his fingers to put the filters back on, “but I do like to be Donny Osmond…The future’s so fun!”

Osmond senior laughed, “It’s so fun, isn’t it? It’s incredible. This is something you’re not going to want to miss,” he told viewers.
Artist Gary Barlow attempted a similar feat in 2013, though his stunt was performed without AI. During a BBC New Year’s Eve special, he brought out an old video of his younger self singing and performed a duet with it.
Last year, Osmond admitted that AI has had some harmful impacts in the entertainment industry, but it also offers a lot of cool advancements.
“AI is a tool, not a substitute,” the singer said. “So, I love the prospects of AI. I love what it can do for me as a producer, as an artist — as a tool. And that’s it.”
Osmond previously hinted he was getting a new co-star, saying they’re “a great singer, they’re an Osmond, and maybe, just maybe, the best dressed Osmond.”
Osmond started his Las Vegas residency in 2021, and it runs till June. His sister, Marie Osmond, had a residency that lasted from 2008 to 2019.
Osmond previously shared that he’s always looking for new ways to thrill his crowds.
“If I just nonchalantly approached all of that and took it all for granted, ooooh,” he says, shuddering. “There’s somebody else in the wings waiting for my position.”
