This Mega-Star’s Wife Struggles with Kids Leaving for College

Mark Wahlberg says his wife, Rhea Durham, doesn’t like her kids leaving home.
“It’s much more difficult for my wife,” Wahlberg said of his kids leaving the nest, “My wife, you know, her sole purpose on the planet is to be a mom, and she wants everybody in the house and under one roof…she doesn’t like change.”
“She doesn’t like the idea of kids leaving the home, but it’s a beautiful thing,” the PLANET OF THE APES star told Fox on Aug. 15. “I think, you know, just encouraging them to pursue their dreams, take a chance on themselves and to dream big. But along with the big ideas, you have to do the little stuff to accomplish, you know, those big goals. And so doing the work, betting on yourself, not being afraid of failure and just staying close.”
Wahlberg loved visiting his daughter, 20-year-old Ella, who attends Clemson University in South Carolina.
“The best thing we could’ve experienced was going and visiting our daughter’s parents’ weekend, and you know, experience that college life. It made me feel like wow, I had a big regret not finishing high school until later on, but definitely even bigger, not having that college experience. So it’s an invaluable time, and I can’t wait for…my other kids to be able to go off to school,” he added.

Mark Wahlberg recently took to Instagram to celebrate his son Michael’s confirmation of his faith.
“So proud of this young man,” the actor captioned a photo of his son and his wife. “congrats buddy!! Even though mommy deserves most of the credit. thanks babe.”
“Good morning from Europe,” Wahlberg said. “Just got down on my hands and knees to express my gratitude on this beautiful day. Congratulations to my son Michael on making his confirmation. All the young people out there who were confirmed and taking their relationship with the lord into their adulthood, what a commitment you guys have made.”
It’s clear that Wahlberg and Rhea have a lot of love for their kids.
In June, Wahlberg posted a photo of him and Ella. He said, “So proud of this young lady ??❤️❤️”
Rhea often posts about her kids on social media and recently shared a video from when Grace was little and singing a Strawberry Shortcake song. Another post shows their son, Brendan, sporting a funny T-shirt.
Last year for Rhea’s birthday, the family celebrated with a day on the lake.
“In April, Wahlberg celebrated that his and Durham’s decision to depart Los Angeles to put the children first was working well, with the kids enjoying life since the move,” PEOPLE reported last year.
“They love Vegas,” Wahlberg said. “I spent lots of time in L.A. pursuing my interests and my career, and now it’s time for them to pursue theirs.”
