This New Streaming Bundle Promises You ‘More Choice and Value’

Disney+, Hulu and Max have officially launched their streaming bundle package.
“On the heels of the very successful launch of Hulu on Disney+, this new bundle with Max will offer subscribers even more choice and value,” Joe Earley, Disney’s president of direct-to-consumer department, said of the partnership.
The bundle can be purchased for $16.99/month with ads and $29.99/month without ads, which Variety noted is “a savings of up to 38.8% compared with the price of the services purchased separately.”
The bundle was announced earlier this year and marks the first major partnership between streamers, as opposed to a streaming service and a telecom or cable company, i.e. Verizon or Comcast.
Disney, Hulu and Max are betting on this bundle to boost viewer engagement and keep subscribers on all three platforms.
“We have found that when you bundle together with other content that more people in the family like — on a very basic level — the more often you watch product, the more people in the family that watch the product, the lower the churn,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said of the deal.
Streaming service bundles have become increasingly popular this year, with many different platforms working to link up with competitors in an effort to bring in new subscribers.
Movieguide® previously reported on the “bundling boom”:
Many streaming platforms are in the process of collaborating with other services to offer more “bundle” models to the public.
One such change is with Paramount + who “is looking to combine…with another service.”
MSN reported, “Such an arrangement would follow the formal announcement in February of Venu Sports, a joint sports offering consisting of Disney’s ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros.; Disney’s intra-studio attempt to create a mega-service to subscribers who ante up for its trio of services: Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+; and Disney’s collaboration plan with Warner Bros. on a bundle consisting of Disney+, Max and Hulu.”
In addition to combining with another service, Paramount+ is in the process of merging with Skydance Media. “The entertainment giant Paramount will merge with Skydance, closing out a decades-long run by the Redstone family in Hollywood and injecting desperately needed cash into a legacy studio that has struggled to adapt to a shifting entertainment landscape,” AP News said.
