Tim Allen Remembers ‘Beautiful, Independent’ Kirstie Alley

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tim Allen is remembering Kirstie Alley following her death earlier this month after a brief battle with colon cancer.

Allen and Alley co-starred in 1997’s FOR RICHER OR POORER.

“I wish I could accentuate how independent her thought was and how beautiful her thought was and how organic her thought was in her heart,” Allen said of her death. “It’s difficult, and she never put that on another person.”

He continued, ”Of course she liked people that disagreed with her, and she said that and how important it was to have other people — it’s confusing when you hear the word ‘tolerant’ and then you get attacked.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the public backlash she faced after expressing her conservative opinions:

LOOK WHO’S TALKING actress Kristie Alley recently compared working in Hollywood as a conservative to living in THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

While on Fox News’ TUCKER CARLSON TODAY, Alley told Carlson that people in the industry told her to keep her conservative views to herself.

“People go, ‘You’re so brave.’ I go, ‘No, I think I’m stupid.’ Because honestly… it is a real blackballing situation,” Alley told Carlson. “It’s so strange to me because artists are free-thinkers, for the most part.”

Alley noted that Hollywood is more concerned with someone’s political views than with actors who are struggling with drugs or sexual immorality.

“You can be cooking meth and sleeping with hookers, but as long as you didn’t vote for Trump…” Alley said. “I feel like I’m in THE TWILIGHT ZONE a bit, with the whole concept of it.”

Alley said that many of her peers in the industry disassociate themselves from her after she announced her support of Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Alley said she previously voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.

“On Twitter, I had many celebrities follow me, and now I think three follow me,” Alley claimed. “I’m the same person. I’m the girl who voted for Obama, twice. And I’m like, ‘Oh, so you liked me when I voted for Obama, and now you’re this?” ‘

Movieguide® also reported on her death:

Actress Kirstie Alley, known best for her roles in NBC’s CHEERS, died on Dec. 5 after a battle with cancer. She was 71.

Alley’s children, True and Lillie Parker, confirmed the news in a statement posted to their mother’s Instagram.

“To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” they wrote. “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”

“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother,” the statement continued. “We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care. Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did. We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time. With love always, True and Lillie Parker.”
