Tim McGraw Credits Wife for 15 Years Sober: ‘She’s My Rock’

Country music star Tim McGraw recently praised his wife, singer Faith Hill, for her support throughout his sobriety journey.

Fox News wrote, “McGraw credits Hill with helping him maintain his sobriety for 15 years, saying, ‘She’s always been my rock. She’s my rock in everything that I do. I don’t think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do.’”

While he’s been sober for 15 years, the country star admits it is still a constant battle, one he fights with the help of his wife.

“It is not a linear path,” McGraw told Yahoo! Entertainment. “There’s setbacks…there’s times you move forward and do great, and there’s times you set back. And that’ll probably be a process throughout the rest of my life and something that I have to be diligent about and really continue to work at.”

In 2008, his life transformed when he recognized his dependence on alcohol. He told Hill about his struggles, and she immediately supplied love and support.

“I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, ‘I have to wake the kids up.’ I went straight to my wife and said, ‘This is where I’m at.’ I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life,” McGraw said in an Esquire interview.

“I didn’t know love could feel so good. Was it an emotion? Was it a lifestyle? Was it an imaginary thing? But love is all of those things.” He continued, “…Love is accepting that I’m wrong. Love is a 360 degree thing.”

Movieguide® previously reported on McGraw’s admiration for his wife:

As three-time Grammy winner Tim McGraw reflected on his upcoming 25th anniversary with Faith Hill, he said he’s grateful to God for his wife’s influence on his daughters.

“I just thank God every day that they had their mom as a role model,” McGraw told ET Canada. “My daughters have grown up to be strong, independent, outspoken… they’re really good solid girls and they’re good friends to their friends and they’re good daughters to their parents.”

While in quarantine due to COVID-19, McGraw said, he spent significant time with his wife and his daughters. During that time, he got to see the fruit of his wife’s influence on the family.
