Tim Tebow Urges People to ‘Make Sure This Year We’re Passionate About the Cause of Christ’

Former NFL Quarterback Tim Tebow asked audiences at the 2023 Passion Conference on Thursday, January 5, to consider their primary passion in life.

As the closing speaker, Tebow spoke on right prioritization regarding what is truly worthwhile, characteristically pointing his listeners directly to Jesus Christ.

“I would humbly, this morning, challenge me, first and foremost, and maybe all of us, to say, what will be the greatest passion of our life? What will be the greatest passion of our life? Will our greatest passion at the end of our life… be for the cause of Christ?” he asked audiences. “I think, in my life, my greatest passion so far…hasn’t been for Jesus. I’d say it’s honestly probably been for sports….We get to be part of the greatest rescue mission in the history of the world because of what Jesus did on the cross.”

He added: “We’re going to run, we’re … going to remember the grace and what God has done in our life, and we’re not going to stop. We might slow down for a second; we might mess up for a second. We might forget for a second, but we’re going to remind each other… we’re going to go again because it’s worth it. What You did for us is worth it. You are worth it. And ultimately, at the end of my life, what else is worth it? Let’s make sure this year we’re passionate about the cause of Christ because we know it’s the only thing that’s worth it.”

Tebow returned to a theme he elaborated on at the same conference last year, on which Movieguide® previously quoted, where he said: “Every single one of us has been given a mission by God, for God.” He said that God has given every unique image bearer both a collective macro-mission, which he defined as loving God and neighbor, and a “micro-mission — something that God has designed exactly for you.” Building on this theme, he said that God gives each one of us the passion to carry out our unique micro-missions.

Tebow “defined ‘passion’ as ‘caring so much for something you’re willing to suffer for it.’”

One thing is certain: the former football star has found one of his micro-missions—charity work—and is clearly passionate about this; his Foundation seeking to help those with disabilities and combat human trafficking is growing by leaps and bounds, now doing important Kingdom work through the generous support of over “50,000 giving family members…and official partnerships with 24 ministries around the world.” In a 2022 letter describing the project, he wrote: “While I had my sights set on becoming the Most Valuable Player, God was opening my eyes to show me that the MVPs I should be chasing the most were the Most Vulnerable People.”

Whatever Tebow’s sports achievements may be, a Heisman and epic leadership of the Broncos to the playoffs as an NFL Quarterback speaking volumes, he obviously considers the mission his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has him on right now, the best place he could possibly be.
