‘Jesus Means Everything’: Timberwolves’ Mike Conley Relies on Faith Ahead of NBA Playoffs

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley helped his team secure a 4-0 sweep against the Phoenix Suns to begin the NBA Playoffs.
But for Conley, life is about more than basketball.
“Jesus means the world,” he said in an interview. “Jesus means everything. It’s what I live for. He is what I do my work for in the community, passing on as much as I can to anybody that needs it.”
Because of his faith, he can compete without worrying about the pressure that comes with being a pro athlete.
“Life is much easier [with faith],” Conley continued. “You cut out a lot of nonsense. There are obviously a lot of temptations in the NBA. Being on TV, running into a bunch of people, you are always vulnerable to a lot of things. Being able to block that out and concentrate on your faith and living a good life is important.”
Conley has “been a big piece of the Wolves since joining the team via trade from Utah at the trade deadline in 2023. In this 2023-24 season, Conley’s first full one in Minnesota, the Timberwolves posted the second-best record in franchise history (56-26). His steady play and strong leadership led Minnesota to sign him to a contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2025-26,” Sports Spectrum wrote.

No matter what team he’s on, Conley makes an impact because of his faith in Christ.
While with the Utah Jazz in 2019, he told Deseret News that his faith helped him not “get distracted with all the things that were going on last season strictly because of that foundation and being able to believe regardless and have faith regardless of what’s in front of me.”
Conley and the Timberwolves face the defending NBA Champions, the Denver Nuggets, in round two of the NBA playoffs.
