TiVo Prepares to Launch Smart TV in the US

By Movieguide® Contributor

TiVo is getting ready to launch its own TVs in the US, battling smart TV rivals like Roku, Google TV and Amazon’s Fire TV.

TiVo OS was announced in 2022 but didn’t officially launch until last year, debuting in Europe.

The operating system is a “neutral platform,” per TiVo’s website, enabling users “to own their brand experience and gain significantly more control on how viewers consume content.”

“TiVo customizes your entertainment experience by delivering truly personalized recommendations based on your watch lists, what’s trending and your unique taste profile,” the website explains

Engadget reported that TiVo OS is “a pretty standard TV for 2025.”

“The operating system aggregates content from streaming services, linear TV channels, and sports packages, and gives users access to ‘a vast library of free and paid content,’ Xperi says,” the outlet continued. “The OS also supports ‘natural voice navigation’ and ‘advanced search and recommendation capabilities.’ Nothing too revolutionary when compared to the competition, but TiVo’s at least known for making user-friendly ways of navigating TV content.”

“As the leading TV streaming platform, Roku aims to make television better for everyone,” Anthony Wood, Founder and CEO of Roku, said. “In a world where one day all TV will be streamed, we’re immensely proud to be the programmer of the home screen for more than 80 million active accounts around the globe, connecting people directly to what they love to watch.”

TiVo isn’t the only company looking to get into the world of smart TVs. Walmart recently purchased smart TV company Vizio.
