TobyMac Praises God for Reaching Millions with His Music Last Year

By Movieguide® Contributor

TobyMac shared his 2023 Spotify Wrapped and expressed his gratitude for how his music has impacted millions of people.

“I don’t necessarily love this post, but I love what it represents. Not the numbers, I really do try to stay away from those, but it represents people. Souls,” TobyMac said. “And I’ve labored over every one of these songs that I’ve put out over my entire career.”

“I’ve prayed and asked God to breathe lyrics through me that turn people’s eyes to Him. Maybe, even miraculously, their hearts… much too great a work for me,” the singer continued. “It’s only if God chooses to use the songs…He can use anything He wants from a flower to a conversation. The fact that He includes us and all of creation in His process is a gift to each of us.”

“So I can look past these numbers, and on to the people that listen, I can be thankful and celebrate DSPs as we call them in the industry, digital service providers that allow people all over the Earth to listen to music. So Merry Christmas to one and all I’m so grateful some [of] these songs resonated with you. God bless,” he added.

TobyMac’s Spotify Wrapped – a yearly recap from the music streaming service – revealed that he reached nearly 8 million people this year across 184 countries. He also had 121.8 million total streams to combine for roughly 7 million hours of music listened to.

Following the death of his 21-year-old son, TobyMac came out with his most recent album, “Life After Death,” at the end of 2022. In it, he explores the pain of losing a child and the goodness he found in God amid tragedy.

The singer is now gearing up for his Hits Deep tour, which launches in January next year.

Christian artist TobyMac is sharing the personal inspirations behind his latest album, Life After Death.

“This one was hard,” he told CBN News. Life After Death was his first album in three years.

“I [took] three years because I like to live a little bit of life and experience some things,” TobyMac — real name: Toby McKeehan — explained of his hiatus. “That’s about when I live enough life to write a record about it.”

Life After Death was also a way for TobyMac to process the 2019 death of his son, Truett Foster McKeehan, who passed away after an accidental overdose of fentanyl and amphetamines.

“Most of the songs are about the journey from losing him, to where I am today,” McKeehan explained. “I’m thankful that God is in the hardest places and that He meets us in the deepest valleys.”
