Tom Holland Says Hollywood ‘Scares’ Him: ‘I’m Always Looking For Ways To Remove Myself From It’

SPIDER-MAN star Tom Holland recently spoke about his dislike of Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
“I really am a massive fan of making movies, but I really do not like Hollywood. It is not for me,” Holland said while appearing on the JAY SHETTY PODCAST.
“The business really scares me,” Holland continued. “I understand that I’m a part of that business and I enjoy my kind of interactions with it, but that said, I am always looking for ways to kind of remove myself from it to kind of just live as normal a life as possible.”
He went on to say that his motto for navigating Hollywood and movie stardom is “Don’t lose yourself.”
“I’ve seen so many people come before me and lose themselves, and I’ve had friends that I’ve grown up with that aren’t friends of mine anymore because they’ve lost themselves to this business,” the actor explained. “And I just am really, really keen to focus on what makes me happy which is my family, my friends, my carpentry, my golf, the charity my mom runs, that is the stuff that makes me really happy and that is the stuff I should protect.”
Holland has previously spoken about his desire to stay out of the spotlight and lead a normal life, especially in regards to his relationship with girlfriend and SPIDER-MAN co-star Zendaya.
“I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private. Because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy,” he told GQ, referring to when paparazzi photos of the pair kissing were published.
“The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own,” Holland continued. “I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other.”
In addition to keeping out of the public eye, Holland stays off of social media as well.
In a video posted to Instagram last summer, the actor told fans, “I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming. I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately, it’s very detrimental to my mental state, so I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”
Holland is also thinking about the future and possibly starting a family. Movieguide® previously reported:
Whatever the case may be for Holland’s future in the MCU, the actor said he wants to start a family. Currently, Holland is dating SPIDER-MAN co-star Zendaya.
“I’ve spent the last six years being so focused on my career,” Holland said. “I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.”
Holland, who is excited to become a father, added that he would want to be a teacher if he weren’t acting.
“I love kids. I can’t wait to be a dad — I can wait and I will, but I can’t wait!” he continued. “If I’m at a wedding or a party, I’m always at the kids’ table hanging out. My dad’s been such a great role model for me. I think I’ve got that from him. So I think I’d be a primary school teacher or something like that.”
