Tom Selleck Could Lose California Ranch When BLUE BLOODS Ends

By Movieguide® Contributor

The hit television show BLUE BLOODS is set to conclude this December, and Tom Selleck, who plays New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, revealed that he could lose his California ranch if he stops working.

In 2020, Selleck told PEOPLE how much he loves his 63-acre ranch and the work he does on it.

“My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,” he revealed. “I do grunt work and I make the rounds. I like watching things grow. It’s a retreat.”

“You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place,” the actor told CBS Sunday Morning.

Show host Tracy Smith asked, “Seriously, that’s an issue? If you stopped working?”

Selleck responded, “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

BLUE BLOODS’ cancellation was announced last fall and confirmed last month.

“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give show the sendoff it deserves.”

Selleck is still holding out hope that the network will change its mind.

Movieguide® recently reported:

Though BLUE BLOODS has been officially canceled by CBS since last fall, Tom Selleck is still hopeful that the network will reverse its decision, a sentiment fueled by a fight he had with a network in the past.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses. We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this—we aren’t sliding off down a cliff, we’re doing good shows and still holding our place,” Selleck told CBS News.

He doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon though, even if BLUE BLOODS does end after this season.

“As an actor, you never lose — I don’t lose, anyway — that sense that every time I finish a job, it’s my last job,” he expressed. “I like the fact that there’s no excuses. You just go to work and you do the work. And I have a lot of reverence for what I call ‘the work,’ and I love it. And I’d like to keep doing it.”
