Great American Family and Pure Flix have a new romance-comedy on the horizon this summer — THE ENGAGEMENT PLAN.
It stars Jack Schumacher, Ted McGinley, Mia Pollini, Judd Nelson, Eva LaRue, Emily Topper, Eric Lutz and Faith Ford.
“In THE ENGAGEMENT PLAN, Wade (Schumacher) has a plan for everything! Wade’s plan to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla (Pollini) may be the crowning achievement of plans. With a 3-carat diamond ring in tow and reservations booked at the Waldorf for his parents, Dash and Margot, (LaRue, Nelson) and Kayla’s parents, Ed and Mama Marilyn (McGinley, Ford), Wade marvels at the absolute perfection of his engagement plan,” the synopsis reads. “Until his plan hits a dead end on a dirt road, a country road.”
“Kayla changes the plan to have Wade meet at her family’s farm to help her mom and dad whose cow is expecting a calf any day. Dressed in business best, Wade — a fish out of water — has an unexpected — and definitely an unplanned encounter with a family who is not convinced he is right for Kayla. Then Wade meets her ex-boyfriend who tries to prove it.”
The movie premieres on Pure Flix Aug. 29, 8 p.m. ET and on Great American Family Sep. 7, 8 p.m. ET.
The movie is produced by Brenton Earley. It’s executive produced by Jim Ameduri, Kendall Baldwin, Michael Scott, David A. R. White and Anna Zielinski. It’s written by Jim Frye and Luke Cheeseman.
The main male lead, Jack Schumacher, is known for his role as Lt. Neil ‘Omaha’ Vikander in TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Judd Nelson, who plays Schumacher’s dad, in the movie, is known for his role as John Bender in THE BREAKFAST CLUB.
Ted McGinley, who plays Kayla’s dad, Ed, previously won a Movieguide® Grace Award® for his performance in DO YOU BELIEVE? as well as multiple Teddy Bear Awards®.
McGinley recently starred in the Amazon Prime series THE BAXTERS. In April, Movieguide® reported on his involvement in the show:
“I wanted to be a part of THE BAXTERS,” McGinley said in an interview with Patheos, explaining that he was drawn to the character John Baxter—a “foundational rock, they can’t do the show without him, which is fun as an actor.”
He also remarked on the quality of the show and the themes it tackles, saying, “There’s nothing like it.”
“There’s someone cheating, you’re sitting, you’re watching, it’s hard to watch,” McGinley said. “But it shows you how to get through it and get to the other side.”
