TOP GUN: MAVERICK Sinks TITANIC on List of Highest-Grossing Movies
By Movieguide® Staff
TOP GUN: MAVERICK raked in millions at the box office this summer, and it recently dethroned one of the biggest movies of all time: TITANIC.
According to IGN, TOP GUN: MAVERICK just moved past TITANIC on the list of highest-grossing movies ever at the US box office, taking the seventh place slot. It has made $662 million in ticket sales, and that number is still climbing.
It’s now behind AVENGERS: ENDGAME, which holds the sixth place spot with $678 million.
TOP GUN: MAVERICK has reached many other milestones, too. It is Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie of all time, and Paramount’s No. 1 movie at the US box office — another record they took from TITANIC.
It has made over $1 billion at the global box office, and is the highest-grossing movie of 2022.
Movieguide® previously reported:
TOP GUN: MAVERICK has been blowing up the box office, garnering more than $800 million worldwide. This massive take off makes it Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie ever, beating out other popular franchises like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.
Half of that $800 million comes from the domestic box office, where the movie scooped up $422.2 million.
TOP GUN: MAVERICK is currently the highest grossing movie in America, proving that audiences will happily turn out for a movie that touts strong values, opposed to the progressive agenda of LIGHTYEAR, which had a dismal opening weekend.
Movieguide®’s review of TOP GUN: MAVERICK reads:
TOP GUN: MAVERICK is a terrific, powerful, exciting movie. It’s full of high drama and heart-pounding action scenes. This role was made for Tom Cruise. He gets great support from Miles Teller as Goose’s son and Jennifer Connelly as Maverick’s romantic interest. TOP GUN: MAVERICK has a strong moral, Pro-American, patriotic worldview. It also tells a strong redemptive story leading to sacrifice, forgiveness and reconciliation. However, TOP GUN: MAVERICK is marred by too many obscenities and three strong profanities. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong or extreme caution.
