TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEAST Earns No. 1 Spot At Box Office

By Movieguide® Contributor

TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEAST dominated at the box office this weekend, even out-earning fan-favorite SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE.

Deadline reported RISE OF THE BEAST made $60.5 million its opening weekend, with ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE making $55.4 million in its second weekend.

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE has made a combined $225.5 million at the box office since its release, already beating out the domestic earnings of its 2018 predecessor, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.

Audiences are responding to the positive elements in both movies.

Both movies received favorable reviews from Movieguide® for their moral content and compelling stories. A portion of the review for TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEAST reads:

TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS sends moviegoers on a roller coaster of emotions as the fight with the bad guys ebbs and flows. The final big battle has some exciting, crowd-cheering surprises. RISE OF THE BEASTS has a pro-life message. The good guys are fighting to preserve life. The movie also promotes sacrifice. However, the supervillain is called a god. Also, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS has lots of action violence plus 21 obscenities and one light profanity. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE reads:

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is a creative, exciting, funny animated superhero movie. It has several unexpected twists that add to the viewer’s enjoyment. Happily, ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE also has a strong pro-family theme. For example, there are heartfelt scenes of love and reconciliation between Miles and his parents and between a Spider-Woman character and her father. Also, a Spider-Man from another universe and his wife have a new baby. Finally, an early image shows a family holding hands and praying together.

This is yet another reminder to studios that families will show up and spend money in theaters if content reflects positive, moral values.
