Viewers Condemn ‘Satanic’ Grammy’s Performance

Viewers took to Twitter to slam the Grammy’s focus on the devil after singers Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “satanic” performance of the award-winning single “Unholy.”
Their “horror movie-inspired” song, “Unholy,” won the 2023 Grammy award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, followed by a live performance of the song.
During the show, Smith wore a hat with devil horns and was surrounded by fire and red lighting, emphasizing its demonic themes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, backup dancers had “props that had allusions to BDSM themes.”
Social media users took to Twitter to share their disgust over the performance.
“I know we on the right probably use the word satanic too often but this performance from Sam Smith is literally a tribute to Satan,” one Twitter user said.
Another added, “You don’t have to be super religious to be disturbed by that Sam Smith devil-worshiping performance,” revealing the demonically alarming nature of the performance.
Viewers also bashed Hollywood’s continual focus on the devil.
“That Sam Smith performance was weird I had to look away like why artists so obsessed with the devil????” a viewer wondered.
Another frustrated viewer added, “That devil worshipping performance was trash. And it’s been done so many times. I’m disappointed.”
“I’m really so sick of the satanic and demonic references…even with the hypocrisy — I still wanna know WHY Nicki, Sam Smith, Lil Nas X, and so many others reference the devil,” another questioned.
Other viewers saw the performance as a reflection of America’s spiritual state.
“Where have we gone to? This looks like satanic worship,” a Twitter user wrote. “The song is called ‘Unholy.’ Is this where America has gone to? One Nation under God has left us.”
“You can be mad or upset about Sam Smith’s satanic Grammy performance all you want. They enjoy flaunting it,” another viewer said.
“Until you/we build up a God fearing culture again and put Jesus at the center of life this is the kind of crap you’re going to keep getting shoved in your face. Change it,” the viewer concluded.
