‘Jesus Saved My Life’: Voice Actor Details How Faith Saw Him Through a Difficult Time

Voice actor James Arnold Taylor is sharing how God turned the worst day of his life into the best day.

“I knew, ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to do voices and cartoons,” Taylor said in a video for THE 700 CLUB.

He has worked on projects for STAR WARS, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, among many others. However, all that changed on Feb. 13, 2005.

“I woke up one day, and I had no voice,” Taylor said.

He went to the doctor, who told him there was mold in his bloodstream, which caused him to lose his voice.

“I said, ‘God, please don’t let this be the worst day of my life,’” he remembered.

Taylor shared that, in addition to losing his source of income, he and his wife were in the process of trying to adopt a child, saying, “We were really just on our knees every day.”

After a medication routine and lifestyle changes, Taylor eventually recovered his voice.

“I had this wonderful gift that God gave me since I was a child, to do these voices and to mimic them, but I wasn’t doing it right and He needed to correct that,” he explained. “He needed to correct it through something that was shocking to my system in every possible way, but I learned and retrained my voice to be even stronger than it was before.”

Taylor and his wife were also able to adopt a daughter, and when he was going through the paperwork, Taylor made a surprising discovery—his daughter was born on Feb. 13, 2005.

“The day that I thought was the worst of my life, God made the best day of my life. He turned it around, and what He showed me is that He’s always listening, and the things that we think are the hardest journeys are there to build us up for the next journey and to make us stronger for the next hurdle that’s going to come up in life,” Taylor explained.

Today, he is still one of the most in-demand voice actors in the business, but he shared that he is more grateful for the love of his family.

“I’m so grateful that I get to wake up in a normal home with a wife and a daughter that love me and a peace that cannot come from any of the stuff I get from my work but can only come from the love of Christ and family and just true love,” he said.

Taylor continued, “I’ve always been very open about my faith in my career. I’ve tried to be a light in a dark place in Hollywood…I love Jesus. Jesus saved my life.”

Taylor spoke further about his faith in an episode of the “Grace Begins” podcast, saying, “There’s no reason why I should be a successful voice actor and have a normal life. And it is all completely because of His grace.”

Taylor recently teamed up with Angel Studios for a new anime series, GABRIEL AND THE GUARDIANS.
