Wait, Was For KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone Arrested?

For KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone recently celebrated the end of the band’s summer concerts by getting a little “too rowdy.”

“⚠️BREAKING NEWS:⚠️ JOEL ARRESTED, ESCORTED OUT OF COUNTY FAIR,” he joked on Instagram under photos from the concert.

Joel continued, “You were just too rowdy, Indiana ? on a more serious note … we loved wrapping up our summer with you Goshen. Onward.”

However, for KING + COUNTRY aren’t packing up and going home just yet. The group has plans to tour through the fall and winter, wrapping 2024’s shows up in December with “A Drummer Boy Christmas” performances in LA, New York and Nashville.

“The annual high-octane show that brother duo Joel and Luke Smallbone have become known for, will showcase an extraordinary production blending festive visuals and stunning lighting and staging effects,” CCM Magazine reported. “In its fifth consecutive year, for KING + COUNTRY will perform at Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry House, marking their second concert residency at the historic venue.”

In addition to their concert dates, Joel and his brother and bandmate, Luke, have also been promoting their latest project, UNSUNG HERO, a movie about their family’s journey to America and through the music industry.

The brothers see UNSUNG HERO as a tribute to their parents and hope viewers come away from the movie with a greater appreciation for their own moms and dads.

“My hope is that people walk away with fathers saying, ‘I want to be a better dad.’ I hope that mothers are incredibly seen for all the hard work that they do,” Joel said. “I hope that they see that it matters, that it shapes the next generation.”

He continued, “I hope for young kids to see there’s no reason why we can’t dream big dreams, because dreams start in a very vulnerable place, but they can bloom. They can blossom and do something extraordinary. And so my hope is that the family will be infused with great hope.”

Movieguide®’s review of UNSUNG HERO reads:

UNSUNG HERO is a true story about a Christian family from Australia’s struggles to survive and thrive in the rough and tumble music business while trying to serve God. When the father, David Smallbone, loses big on promoting an unsuccessful tour, he thinks relocating the family to Nashville may be their best route forward. Odd jobs and a local church keep the family afloat while David seeks work in the music industry. David’s father, wife Helen and others tell him he should focus on the musical talent living under his own roof. The family’s prospects rise when he takes that advice to heart. Can focusing on God and family lead them to the new life they seek?

UNSUNG HERO is a powerful, compelling story of faith and family, told with lots of sincerity and heart. The acting and writing is very good and convincing. UNSUNG HERO has a strong Christian, biblical worldview. The family’s Christian faith is not only clear from their repeated prayers to Jesus to guide and provide for them, but also from their infectious enthusiasm and spiritually uplifting song lyrics.
