Wake Forest Catcher Bennett Lee Relies on God Amid Men’s College World Series

Bennett Lee single-handedly won the game for Wake Forest on Monday evening. Bennett delivered a big time RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
In a post-game interview with ESPN Lee stated, “It’s really fun. We have a ton of fun the whole time and that’s what it’s really about. In these big moments you can kind of get lost in that. But trusting in God, trusting in each other, trusting in our family is what makes us get it done.”
Before Lee’s final at-bat, he ran over to his third base coach, Bill Cilento. Lee was nervous and needed a minute to calm his nerves. Again, in a different post-game interview Lee touched on his trust in God.
“It was just, ‘slow down, enjoy, trust God, trust my training, trust everything and be present for one pitch,’” Lee stated. “And that’s what happened.”
Lee has yet to be ashamed of his faith. In an Instagram post Lee wrote, “I want to thank the Good Lord for making me a Deacon #AMDG #brothersforever #zzz #drivecity.”
Lee previously played for Tulane University before transferring to Wake Forest. He has started 41 of 64 games on the schedule. Lee currently is hitting .309 with seven home runs and 34 RBI’s.
In Monday’s post-game press conference Lee said, “Just being a workhorse, like, that’s what I’m built for. That’s what I love to do. I love to be in it every single play and give my all for these guys every single day. So, that’s all I do. That’s what I enjoy. That’s why I’m here.”
As Lee and his team inch forward for an NCAA Championship Lee’s goal has been to rely on God fully and to just enjoy the present moment.
“You might only come here one time, so we just really try to have a lot of fun,” he expressed. “And then by having a lot of fun, you’re loose and it allows your abilities to take over. I love these guys, and it’s pretty special.”
