WAR ROOM Creators Alex And Stephen Kendrick Tease New Projects Coming In 2023
By Movieguide® Contributor
Movie-making partners and brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick have plenty of plans for 2023!
The duo have previously made movies like WAR ROOM, OVERCOMER, and LIFEMARK. The Kendricks teased three upcoming projects that fans can expect to see in 2023.
Those projects include FLYWHEEL, a re-release of their first movie, and an unnamed movie.
When FLYWHEEL was initially released, Movieguide® praised the heart and message of the movie, but noted that it could use some production improvements:
FLYWHEEL is a compelling movie despite the fact that the camerawork and production quality is very low. Alex Kendrick does a terrific job as Jay Austin. He also does a good job directing the movie. Some of the actors are weak, including the wife, but overall the story, which is extremely well written, commands the audience’s attention, and in fact, keeps you on the edge of your seat. What is truly amazing is that this was produced by a church.
The re-release thus far promises to fix the production quality issues of the original.
“(2023) is the 20th anniversary of Flywheel … and we found software that will digitally upgrade and increase the quality of the image,” Alex said. “And so we’re going through and preparing that movie for a re-release for its 20th anniversary, but it will look much better. …. So if you liked Flywheel, hopefully, you’ll like it even more when the re-release comes.”
In their later movies, the brothers often tackle difficult subject matters, especially in LIFEMARK, which told the incredible true story of one mother’s decision to give her son up for adoption. Shortly before the movie was released, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and many Americans vocally began to engage in the abortion discussion.
“Sometimes the truth is hard to process, but we’ve got to go there,” Steven said. “And so we are now in a position to say that when Scripture says to stand for the innocent and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, that … God knows us in the womb, and He knows us before we’re born, He knows everything about us, and He values us, for us to stand for the unborn.”
Alex said that in every step, they want to honor the Lord and His timing.
“The goal is to be faithful with what God’s called you to do and the platform that you have to honor Him,” Alex said. “I cannot deny that He led us in that direction and blessed our loaves and fish. He’s getting the glory. We’re not getting the glory for it. … We commit it to Him. And we just trust Him with the results.”
