Warner Bros. Discovery Just Made Over 30 Movies Free on YouTube
By Movieguide® Contributor
The official Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) YouTube channel just uploaded 34 full length movies to a playlist, along with a description suggesting they plan to add even more in the future.
“Watch your favorite full movies here from Warner Bros. Entertainment! All your favorite legends are here including Jackie Chan, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine O’Hara, Tarzan, Liam Neeson, Julia Roberts, Eugene Levy, and more! Keep an eye out for more feature length films for free, right here,” the playlist’s description reads.
While none of the movies included in the playlist are particularly popular, they do star some of the biggest actors from the ’80s, ’90s and early ’00s. Furthermore, these movies are not available on Max, The Verge reported, making YouTube now the easiest place to access them.
Offering these movies may seem like a strange move by WBD, however, it appears the company is attempting to reach audiences where they are at. This move is reminiscent of the leniency that studios have shown to accounts posting clips of shows and movies across social media. While this initially seemed like it would cut into the bottom line of their streaming platforms, the studios found that these clips actually drummed up interest, causing more people to flock to their sites.

“When consumers see a clip, a trailer, a compilation, even fan-generated content, that becomes a powerful signal, a powerful discovery tool, especially for younger generations, that then encourages them to go on and watch the content,” WBD research chief Natasha Hritzuk told Variety. “So I would go so far as to argue that short-form video is a critical media platform for studios who want to promote their content with younger generations.”
Perhaps Hritzu’s team is now experimenting with offering older movies for free to see if they can connect younger audiences with older genres and actors. Viewers may consume all of the content on the playlist that features a certain actor or genre and move over to Max to find even more.
