Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell, used his platform on AMERICAN IDOL to cry out to Jesus about some of his battles with his faith.

“I wrote this song when I was going through a pretty tough time in my life,” the younger Littrell said of his original piece, “Hey Jesus.”

Littrell penned the words after his grandmother died.

“I never expected to lose her, so when I did, I questioned everything,” Baylee Littrell said. “I had pushed away faith and thought I would not find it again. This song kind of helped me find it.”

Baylee Littrell sang while his parents watched with tears in their eyes: “Hey Jesus, I broke my wings again/Could you help me up, One last time, old friend/Oh, ’cause I surrender, everything.”

Watch the song for yourself:

Baylee’s return to faith has been incredibly important for his father, Brian.

“I want him to have the best life that he can have,” Brian previously said. “I want him to know God.”

Baylee Littrell won the coveted golden ticket to Hollywood earlier this season on AMERICAN IDOL.

The young crooner said he’d always been into music and even dreamed of being the sixth Backstreet Boy along with his father.

“I believe I get my voice from dad, and hopefully I can do him justice today,” Baylee Littrell said. “I guess you could say music runs in our family … Following in my dad’s footsteps is scary, because his career, to me, is one of the most extraordinary in music history. No one can ever compare.”

Baylee even appeared on stage with his famous father.

“I got to introduce my dad at 5 years old,” he said. “And then when I was 10, I started opening up for them. I would sing two or three songs before the opener would come out and play their set.”

Brian Littrell previously appeared at the Movieguide® Awards Gala where he praised his family.

“Family values are probably the most important thing to me right now being five years into my marriage and a two-year-old little boy at home,” Brian Littrell said at the time. “Family values are what keep your feet on the ground, and what I keep closest to my heart.”

Brian Littrell has been incredibly open about how his faith impacts his music.

“I started in Christian music growing up singing in church as a four and five year old and I had an opportunity to go to Cincinnati Bible College where I was going to study youth ministry and music ministry on a vocal scholarship and that’s what I thought God had planned for my life,” Brian Littrell said.

He continued: “I thought God had a plan for me to study youth ministry, music ministry but that was when he he used me in the secular world and the music business with the Backstreet Boys. I’m blessed and I’m fortunate and very lucky to have a God-given gift and be able to use it for Him.”
