WATCH: Katy Perry Glorifies God in Throwback Video

Before she made worldwide fame, Katy Perry (then going by her real name of Katy Hudson) first tried to make it in the Christian music industry.
Perry learned to sing at church and often sang hymns for her parents or in the choir.
“That led to me being 14 or 15, when I started going to Nashville to record some gospel songs, and to be around amazing country-music vets and learn how to craft a song and play guitar. I’d actually have to Superglue the tips of my fingers because they hurt so much from playing guitar all day, you know? And from that, I made the best record I could make as a gospel singer at 15,” Perry said.
“I think even like us in the Christian industry, we should always be pushing the envelope, trying to be something a little bit better than the mainstream is!” Perry said when she was working on gospel music. “We shouldn’t be influenced by them, they should be influenced by us! I mean, come on! The whole time we’re influenced by them, we’re so far behind that the average person’s ear doesn’t even want to listen to it. I think we’re worth more than that, because obviously they’re not serving God, they’re not in it for the same motives that we’re in, they’re in it for the same motives that we’re in. They’re in it for something totally different, whatever reason they may be in it for, and we have the ultimate Creator. I mean, look around, dude! I live on the coast, Santa Barbara, California. I live five minutes from the ocean, I get inspired every time I go out there. We ought to be the best at what we do. Not second, but the best. God is our God! I go off sometimes!”
Sadly, Perry walked away from her faith and embraced “pushing the envelope” for mainstream culture. But hope is not lost.
Watch the throwback video to see Perry in action, and pray for her return to Christ.
