WCTH Stars Made This Change to Their Characters’ Love Story
By Movieguide® Contributor
Kevin McGarry and Erin Krakow want to get their characters’ love story right, and that includes making some changes to the script along the way.
In an interview with “The Edify Show,” McGarry, who plays Nathan, discussed a special moment in episode 7 that he and Krakow, who plays Elizabeth, decided to change.
“A first on the show, Erin and I go up and we have to sing the song that we were humming earlier in the episode,” he explained.
The actors were scripted to do one song but chose another that felt more genuine to their characters.

“‘For Me and My Gal’ was the original one, and then Erin and I talked…it was too fast,” McGarry said. “We wanted one that was a bit slower. And we wanted one that was kind of more to Nathan and Elizabeth’s story, so we switched it to ‘You Made Me Love You.’”
He continued, “This kind of idea that, you know, they fought this for a long time and then it just was already in the stars. So, we thought that was a more appropriate song. So yeah, we said, ‘hey we’re going to sing this one instead,’ and they let us.”
McGarry and Krakow are grateful they get to work together.
“You are just so grounded and friendly,” McGarry told Krakow at The Hallmark Christmas Experience in December. “And I think the reason we are able to take something off the page sometimes that doesn’t seem like it’s a big deal or it’s going to fly as high as it does, it’s just because you’re so present and you’re so willing to kind of take whatever I give you…You’re there with me all the time…And I’m very lucky.”
WHEN CALLS THE HEART is currently in the middle of releasing Season 12 on Sundays at 9/8c with a Hallmark+ release the following day.
