What to Expect from NCIS Season 21
By Movieguide® Contributor
NCIS has been renewed for Season 21, and here is everything you need to know about the show and its new season.
NCIS was originally created as a spin-off of the show JAG but ended up being “the third longest-running primetime drama in television history.”
The series is still at the top of the charts despite running for over two decades.
“NCIS tied GUNSMOKE last year with its 20th season renewal, as the third-longest-running U.S. primetime drama series only behind LAW & ORDER: SVU and LAW & ORDER. It stars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover and Katrina Law with Davis McCallum, Rocky Carroll and Gary Cole,” Deadline reported.
PEOPLE reported, “In February 2023, CBS renewed NCIS for its 21st season along with a slew of other series including its sister series NCIS: HAWAII and other popular shows like YOUNG SHELDON, THE EQUALIZER and CSI: VEGAS.”
Fans can expect the next season to pick up by resolving the major cliffhanger Season 20 ended with.
After Agent Torres went undercover as a prison inmate, a man from his past recognized him, and the season ended with the agent pointing his gun at someone.
“Will Season 21 open with him pulling the trigger? It seems that, whoever this guy is, he managed to harm Torres and his family members long ago, to the point Nick is willing to kill him for revenge,” Cinema Blend reported. “Surely an NCIS agent as prestigious as Torres wouldn’t cross that line, would he?”
As the new season approaches, some fans are worried about the impact the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike will have on the cast.
Many stars, including Katrina Law, Wilmer Valderrama, Sean Murray and Brian Dietzen, have voiced their support for the strike.
PEOPLE said, “…it’s unclear which actors will return and who might join the cast since actors can’t negotiate contracts during the strike. However, there’s no reason to assume anyone from the main cast won’t be reprising their roles, especially star Valderrama since he’s involved in season 20’s cliffhanger ending, which will likely play a major role in the season 21 premiere.”
Unfortunately, actor David McCallum, who played Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, died in September. Movieguide® reported:
Beloved actor David McCallum died of natural causes on Monday while surrounded by loved ones at a New York hospital.
“He was the kindest coolest, most patient and loving father,” said his son Peter in a statement on behalf of the family. “He always put family before self. He looked forward to any chance to connect with his grandchildren.”
McCallum is best known for his role as Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard on CBS’s crime drama NCIS, a character he played for 20 years.
