What You Need to Know About NBC’s New Streaming Service
By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor
NBC will launch its new streaming service, titled Peacock per the NBC brand, on April 15, 2020, for Comcast Xfinity 1 customers. The service will be available to the general public on July 15. However, not all of Peacock’s titles will suit your fancy.
Like Quibi, Netflix and other streaming sites, Peacock offers largely non-family-friendly options under the NBC banner with a few sporadic exceptions like HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and EVAN ALMIGHTY.
Popular TV titles on Peacock include:
-SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
-30 ROCK
-LAW AND ORDER: SVU
-HOUSE
-FRAISER
-DOWNTON ABBEY
-THE OFFICE
-CHEERS
-FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

In addition to scripted TV series, Peacock will offer certain reality TV shows like CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST, REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DALLAS and HOLLYWOOD MEDIUM.
Movies on Peacock include MOONRISE KINGDOM, JURASSIC WORLD and Bill Murray’s LOST IN TRANSLATION.
Peacock will also have some original content, the most notable of which is the SAVED BY THE BELL reboot with Mario Lopez. Movieguide® previously reported that this series is not safe for families, as it stars a transgender person in the lead role.
CNET highlighted how much Peacock will cost viewers:
Peacock has three tiers: one that’s free; one that’s $5 a month; and, one that’s $10 a month.
The free tier limits how much you can watch. For example, instead of getting all the Peacock originals, you get only select episodes.
Both paid tiers are what’s called Peacock Premium, basically an all-access pass to everything on the service. Peacock Premium is $5 with advertising, or you can upgrade to an ad-free version for $10.
In a time where streaming continues to gain steam, parents and consumers alike should exercise discernment with titles that fit their Christian values.
