The NCIS: ORIGINS Season 1 finale will air on CBS on Monday, April 28, and you won’t want to miss it.
“NCIS: ORIGINS follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and is narrated by Mark Harmon. In the series, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid),” a series description reads on CBS.
According to PrecinctTV, NCIS: ORIGINS Season 1 had fewer episodes than a typical NCIS season, so ORIGINS included several breaks throughout its release schedule. However, fans hope that Season 2 will be the same length as NCIS Season 23 so that “they can start and finish at the same time.”
Here’s what to expect in the Season 1 finale.
“When the murder of Pedro Hernandez is unearthed, Gibbs faces a reckoning; when he needs his team most, the loyalty of one is brought into question,” the full synopsis of Season 1, episode 18 reads.
The episode is titled “Cecilia,” which is Agent Lala Dominguez’s first name.
In the NCISverse, Pedro Hernandez is a Mexican drug lord from the Reynosa Cartel. Hernandez murdered Gibbs’ wife and daughter.
With Hernandez’s murder coming to light, Gibbs will have to protect himself against Lara Macy, a Military Police investigator who becomes Special Agent in Charge at the Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles years later in NCIS lore. Now that Lala and Franks know what really happened, will they risk their jobs to protect Gibbs?
Mariel Molino, the actress who portrays Lala Dominguez, shared a video of her favorite moments on NCIS: ORIGINS.
“Looking back on this season of #origins and sharing one of my favorite moments with @amstowell. The moment Lala and Gibbs forged their bond 4evaaa,” Molino wrote.
In an interview with Screen Rant, showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North talked about the challenges of creating a story that is more about the characters, while still staying true to the NCIS expectations.
“We really made a point to create a show for both our fans, which we adore and are so grateful for, but also for new viewers,” Monreal said. “So, we really tried to strike a balance between those two groups of people so that you don’t have to have seen any episodes of the mothership NCIS to understand and invest in ORIGINS. But at the same time, we remain true to canon and try to give those Easter eggs to our existing fans as well.”
“Gina and I are just in love with these characters, and this show is much more of a character study than it’s a procedural,” North added. “So, when it feels like it’s the right time to tell a story of that character, that’s what we’ve been doing. We don’t really set out to say, ‘Okay, this episode has to be about Mary Jo,’ [it’s] just if it feels right.”
Fans will have to wait until Monday, April 28, to find out what happens to Gibbs, Lala and the rest of the NCIS: ORIGINS crew.
