What you Need to Know for Netflix NFL Christmas Day Match-ups

For the first time ever the streaming giant, Netflix, will live stream two NFL games on Christmas Day.

Per Forbes, “The kick-off for first game is 1 p.m. (ET) and will feature the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second game will start at 4:30 p.m. (ET) with the Houston Texans hosting the Baltimore Ravens. All four AFC teams made the NFL playoffs last season and all are playoff bound this season. With Christmas falling on a Wednesday (a rare day to schedule NFL games), all four teams will be playing on the Saturday prior to Christmas.”
In addition to the two match-ups, Netflix announced that Grammy award winner Mariah Carey will perform before the games.
According to Variety, “The pop star will deliver a taped performance of her record-breaking festive hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ before the day’s two football games, marking a major move from Netflix into the world of sports.”
Additionally, “When the action moves to Houston later in the afternoon, Grammy-winning group Pentatonix — Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee — will share their version of the national anthem. And during halftime, Beyoncé will put on a show featuring the first live performance of tracks from her “Cowboy Carter” album,” Netflix reported.
Netflix Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, said in a press release, “Last year, we decided to take a big bet on live — tapping into massive fandoms across comedy, reality TV, sports, and more. There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts. We’re so excited that the NFL’s Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix.”
