WHEN CALLS THE HEART Co-Stars Reunite for Hallmark Mystery

WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith are teaming up onscreen again — this time, for Hallmark’s NELLY KNOWS MYSTERIES: A FATAL ENGAGEMENT.
“When advice columnist Nelly finds her childhood friend Dahlia’s boyfriend dead, she joins detective Hogan to help find the killer,” Hallmark’s description of the movie reads. “However, as suspicions creep in, Dahlia becomes a prime suspect.”
Hutton plays Nelly, while Smith stars as Detective Hogan. The duo also work together on WHEN CALLS THE HEART, where they play Rosemary and Lee Coulter.
The pair told TV Insider that they’ve “been trying for years” to work together on a project outside of WCTH.
“I think it was meant to be because this one feels like the perfect fit for us,” Hutton said. “When we first read the script, Kavan phoned me and said, ‘So this is a slam dunk for us.’”
Smith added, “It’s very rare in this business that you find somebody that you like to work with, that you work well with.Usually, you show up on set, you try and force a relationship real quick. You bond quickly, or you don’t, and then the show’s over. Sometimes, when there’s this slow burn over the years, you get on each other’s nerves. We don’t generally get on each other’s nerves, so we’ve always looked to keep that working relationship going because it’s just a good fit. As you get older as an actor, you just want to keep going. You want to keep doing this.”
In an interview with Us Weekly, Hutton teased a potential sequel, joking, “Hopefully there’d be another murder. Fingers crossed.”

Two WHEN CALLS THE HEARTS mainstays, Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith, who play WCTH couple Rosemary and Leland Coulter, are set to star in a new Hallmark movie next month.
Hutton will take the lead in NELLY KNOWS MYSTERIES: A FATAL ENGAGEMENT, and Smith will star as a love interest.
The movie is set to premiere on Aug. 23. Its title signals that there are likely more mysteries for Hutton and Smith on the horizon.
TV Insider reported, “When an unusual handwritten letter arrives at Nelly’s (Pascale Hutton, When Calls the Heart) office, she identifies the handwriting as belonging to her childhood friend Dahlia (Sarah Grey, The Secret Lives of College Freshmen), claiming her boyfriend Blake (Julian Haig, Dial S for Santa) is being unfaithful. Determined to help, Nelly wants some answers and rushes to Blake’s home, only to find his dead body. When Dahlia becomes the prime suspect, the new, handsome detective in town, Michael Hogan (Kavan Smith, When Calls the Heart), must work with Nelly to prove that her childhood friend is not the killer everyone believes her to be.”
