WHEN CALLS THE HEART creator and producer Brian Bird just shared some exciting news about Season 13 during the “Official Hearties Aftershow.”
“Joy Gregory, our fantastic Season 12 writer and executive producer…is joining us again for Season 13 as our showrunner,” he announced.
Bird continued, “We’re so thrilled with that. Joy did such an amazing job this year on the show, her first year on the show, but she just got it so quickly, picked up the world, picked up the values, picked up the vibes.”
Bird explained that Gregory “brought her own to it” as a writer, which the production team really appreciated.
He concluded, “Congratulations, Joy, we’re so thrilled that you’re going to be leading the charge in Season 13.”
Gregory chimed in to express her excitement for the new role. “I’m deeply inspired by the fan engagement on the show. It’s like nothing I’ve experienced in 25 seasons of TV that I’ve written and produced. It’s a very special show, and it suits my taste,” she said.
She shared she loves WHEN CALLS THE HEART and that it is her “kind of TV.”
“Finally, I get to indulge my love of people just loving each other as best they can. It’s the kind of TV I love to watch and I’m so grateful to get to create it for all of you,” she told the group. She revealed that the next season will focus on “flawed people try to love each other as best as they can in difficult circumstances.”
Gregory will replace Lindsay Sturman as showrunner, Soap Hub said.
WHEN CALLS THE HEART has always been about family, a value that rallies its fanbase.
In fact, the show just announced an upcoming “Hearties Family Reunion” that will take place later this year.

The reunion will take place in the area where the show is filmed.
