Hope Valley must have some kind of magnetic pull, because WHEN CALLS THE HEART is the most-watched original cable program on TV.
“#1 ratings across the cable industry to celebrate 11 seasons of WHEN CALLS THE HEART! Hallmark Channel’s longest-running series wraps Season 11 with standout ratings that prove viewers’ hearts remain in Hope Valley. WHEN CALLS THE HEART Season 11 was the #1 most-watched original program on entertainment cable among key demographics,” Hallmark announced Saturday.
Season 11 alone reached a whopping 7 million unduplicated viewers.
“What’s more, the series was the #1 most-watched entertainment cable program every Sunday for 12 straight weeks with key demos. The fan-favorite show lifted Hallmark Channel to be the #1 most-watched entertainment cable network on weekends among key demos,” Hallmark said.
The show, set in the early 1900s, depicts the trials and adventures of Hope Valley’s inhabitants. In the current season, schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher and Mountie Nathan Grant continue to develop feelings for each other as Governor Lucas Buchard tames his affection for Elizabeth. Meanwhile, reporter Rosemary Coulter and Bill Avery team up to investigate a threat to Hope Valley.
Part of Movieguide®’s review of Season 2 reads:
WHEN CALLS THE HEART is an entertaining television show with a strong Christian, moral worldview. The whole family can sit down and watch this show together, be entertained, and know that their faith and values won’t be offended.
WHEN CALLS THE HEART will continue with Season 12 next year.
The show’s creators, Brian Bird and Michael Landon Jr. recently announced that they have a new show in the works called, HOME TO HARMONY. A sneak peek of the show will release on July 3 on their YouTube channel.
The show is based on a book series by Philip Gulley. Little has been said about the show’s plot, but the first book description reads, “In this acclaimed inaugural volume in the Harmony series, master American storyteller Philip Gulley draws us into the charming world of minister Sam Gardner in his first year back in his hometown, capturing the essence of small-town life with humor and wisdom.”
