WHEN CALLS THE HEART Stars Paul Greene And Lori Loughlin Still ‘Stay In Touch’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Paul Greene and Lori Loughlin might no longer be co-stars on WHEN CALLS THE HEAR, but the actors are still the best of friends.

Greene starred as Dr. Carson Shepherd on the popular show until 2021, while Loughlin left her role as Abigail Stanton in 2019.

“I do [keep in touch with her],” Greene said recently. He went on to share a tough time Loughlin helped him navigate.

“When my mom fell and hit her head a few years ago and she was in a pretty bad place [and] we didn’t know if she was gonna make it, Lori was there the most for me during that time,” he shared.

Green continued, “We were on WHEN CALLS THE HEART at the same time, and then throughout everything that was going on, I stayed in touch with her just to check on her and see how she was doing.

“She was actually in Sudbury in North Bay, North Ontario, like a few days after I left,” Greene said, referring to where WHEN CALLS THE HEART is filmed.

He shared, “We touched base [then because I wanted] to see how she was doing. … She seemed like she was very happy and in very good spirits to be back [acting]. I think she’s awesome [and] I try and stay in touch with her as much as I can.”

The actor even teased a potential return to the show.

“Not being on WHEN CALLS THE HEART has been a challenge because I really love the family there and I was on it for so long, and the fans are amazing,” Greene said. “So, I might get back on WHEN CALLS THE HEART. It just depends on what capacity and when [but] I am definitely talking with him about some kind of a possibility.”

While Loughlin hasn’t reappeared on WHEN CALLS THE HEART, she has shown up on the spin-off, WHEN HOPE CALLS. Movieguide® previously reported:

Lori Loughlin returned to the screen earlier this month in the premiere of WHEN HOPE CALLS, a spin-off of WHEN CALLS THE HEART on GAC Family.

Lori Loughlin’s character, Abigail, left Hope Valley to take care of her sick mother out East.

In Season 2 of the spin-off show, she returns – alongside her adopted son, Cody.

Abigail reunites with friend Lillian, and tells her that her mother is healthy now. She also reconnects with Henry Gowen and communicates with Jack Thornton in a dream.

It’s unclear whether Abigail and Cody will return East, or come back to Hope Valley, but many fans are hoping to see more of Loughlin.

The show, which is now a GAC Family Original, is Loughlin’s first acting role in more than two years. The actress had just wrapped production on Season 6 of WHEN CALLS THE HEART when the college admissions scandal broke. Hallmark put the show on a brief hiatus, then aired Season 6 without Loughlin’s scenes.
