When Chuck Norris Met Ronald Reagan: ‘A Great Leader’

By Movieguide® Contributor

America’s favorite movie star hero Chuck Norris recently shared details of the moment he met former president and actor Ronald Reagan.

He always admired the 40th president, and when the opportunity to meet him presented itself, he took advantage of it.

“One day, Nancy Reagan’s assistant called my office. My assistant answered and told her that I wasn’t there,” Norris said. “Then Mrs. Reagan’s assistant explained that the first lady was having a tennis celebrity event at the White House, and she wanted to invite me. My assistant said she would call me and let her know soon if I would be able to make it to the event.”

Norris explained how although he didn’t know how to play tennis, he accepted the invitation and took tennis lessons before he went.

“I obtained a tennis teacher to give me 10 days of intensive lessons before I had to fly to Washington, D.C.” he explained.

“When I met [Reagan] in person, I immediately knew that he was not only a fine man but also a great leader for our country,” Norris recalled.

The actor noted that when Reagan took office, America was experiencing many of the same issues it is today.

“Reagan faced many of the same problems we face today, which were also caused by four years of a previous Democratic president (Carter): skyrocketing inflation, a Middle East hostage crisis, threats from Iran and Russia (among others), soaring gas prices, weak global leadership, illegal immigration and border invasion,” he said.

Norris encouraged his readers that what this country needs now is something different than what we currently have.

“That is why I repeatedly say history clearly teaches us that four more years of Biden economics and leadership via Vice President Kamala Harris is NOT the answer,” he explained. “We don’t need more of the same; otherwise we’ll get more of the same! As an adage goes, if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always be where you’ve always been.”

Reagan’s life, his love for his country and his impact on America were recently chronicled in the REAGAN biopic which released last month. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

Dennis Quaid gives a bravura performance in REAGAN as the beloved President, union leader and movie star. He’s just as good during the more intimate scenes as he is in the iconic public scenes. He’s supported by a great cast, including Jon Voight as a KGB analyst who closely follows Reagan’s beliefs and behavior. The movie’s focus on Reagan’s fight against communism gives a strong narrative structure to REAGAN’s stirring story of faith and patriotism.

Scriptwriter Howard Klausner detailed the qualities that Regan embodied that we should look for in our leaders today.

“This guy loved people,” he told Movieguide®. “He loved his country. He loved his wife and his family. He loved God, and he loved the sense of mission that was bringing down the Berlin Wall. He was one of the most humble people that ever lived, always making fun of himself…he was just so comfortable in his own skin.”
