Why This Actress Stood Her Ground and Refused a ‘Dirty’ SNL Song

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE cast member Andy Samberg is recalling how Amy Adams refused to participate in a “dirty” SNL song in 2008.

“While discussing the song, Samberg revealed that they originally had another idea for that week’s digital short, but Adams declined to participate,” Fox News reported.

“I’m not gonna go into great detail about it, but it was a song that would have been a duet with me and Amy Adams, and it was very dirty,” he recently said on “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.”

The skit was about an elderly couple on the verge of death who sing about their sexual regrets. Adams thought it would be a terrible example for young girls.

“We played the beginning of it for her and read a bunch of the lyrics, and she thought it was very funny, and she was so nice as always. We love Amy,” he said. “She’s a genius, and she was like, ‘That’s really funny. I can’t do that. Little girls are so obsessed with ENCHANTED right now. They will find this, and it will be scarring for them, and I just can’t mix that right now.’”

So they switched gears and came up with a hero sketch where Samberg played a Batman-like character and Adams, a damsel who needs saving.

“When we went out to shoot ‘Hero Song,’ within five minutes, a mother and her little girl walked up, and the look on the little girl’s face upon seeing Amy Adams, I was like, ‘Oh, she was so right,’” Samberg recalled.

“And it was very instructive for me. It’s not something I even ever thought about in our line of work. You know what I mean? Of like, she actually has an obligation and a responsibility to those kids, and she took it really seriously. And I remember being really impressed by that.”

PEOPLE reported, “Samberg went on to say that, at the time, YouTube was starting to grow as a platform and the digital short would’ve likely been ‘accidentally’ discovered by younger fans who were wanting to ‘watch everything with Amy Adams’ because of their love for ENCHANTED.”

The MAN OF STEEL actress also has some recent reservations when it comes to scenes with nudity.

She said, “When I think about doing nudity or something like that, I actually think about my daughter. I’m like, does the script call for this in a way that I feel like when she’s an adult, I can have a discussion with her about it, or am I just being naked?”
