Why Andy Erwin Loves LITTLE WOMEN

On a recent episode of the Candace Cameron Bure podcast, Bure sat down with filmmaker Andrew Erwin to discuss female-oriented movies, specifically LITTLE WOMEN.
Erwin explained how although he may not be the type of person one would expect to enjoy this type of film, he appreciates women in his life which have really brought this movie to life for him.
“LITTLE WOMEN is… you know, this one is one that I was excited about when you brought up. And I know that I don’t seem like the typical audience to watch Little Women, but I’m married to an amazing woman,” he explained. “Mandy, my wife is a free spirit, and I’ve got two daughters, that are 12 and 7. And so that’s my world. Like, I love being a girl, dad, and I love just the beautiful painting that my wife introduced me into. Like, it just the world of color.”
He continued, “There’s thing there’s four different versions that have been done over the years, but we were going to talk about the most recent one that Greta Gerwig did and, in 2019, and it is a gorgeous story that I think is very empowering because it is really a story about a mother, Marmee, and her four daughters. And how she really poured into their lives and created these, these little girls into little women.”
Erwin asked Bure about which women have impacted her life. She began with speaking about her mother.
“My mom is the most major woman in my life who poured into me. Not just, I think because she’s my mom and loves me, but because she’s an incredible woman,” Bure said. “And I could just watch her and learn from her, whether it was directed learning towards me or not, a just to witness her life and the decisions that she’s made and the challenges that she’s gone through have been incredible.”
She continued by sharing more about her mother and how her faith is something that set her apart.
“My mom took leaps of faith within her personal life, in her relationship with my dad,” Bure said. “And by the way, they’ve been married over 55 years. But, you know, just looking at her with those steps. But then also in her career, my mom, my mom graduated high school, but married my dad right out of high school and didn’t go to school. I think she taught macrame classes out of our garage. And she went from having four kids and not really knowing anything about business to then managing both my brother and me in our careers, to opening up a talent agency for 13 years and then advocating for families within the industry from a faith perspective, was very much a mama bear and protected all of her clients in that way.”
LITTLE WOMEN teaches viewers like Bure and Erwin the strength and importance of the women in our lives.
