Why Cameron Diaz Is Passionate About Building Her Family

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actress Cameron Diaz prioritizes building her family over being in Hollywood. The actress sat down with Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit to discuss a time she had to set her career aside to focus on those who matter most.

“It felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life, and I just really didn’t care about anything else,” said Diaz, who put her career aside in 2014. “Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have. I think it really comes to what are you passionate about, for me it was to build my family.”

Diaz shares two children with her husband Benji Madden, her daughter Raddix born 2019 and her son Cardinal born 2024.

Diaz also shared how while the Covid lockdowns were difficult for many, she appreciated the time home with her family.

“After COVID, we were in the house for a long time, which was amazing and the problem was we would probably stay there, we would still be there right now. People would be like, ‘It’s over’ and I’d be like, ‘No it’s not, it’s not over for me,'” she said. “So I had to push myself; my husband and I — my husband, who is the best — he was like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family’ and supporting him in his businesses, he’s like, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let Mommy ascend and do her thing.’ He’s like, ‘Let me see you do it, girl.’ I was like, ‘Alright, here we go.'”

Previously Diaz spoke about how motherhood has changed her in the best way.

“Will, I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. I have no idea. Maybe. Never say never,” Diaz said on the radio show QUARANTINED WITH BRUCE. “But I couldn’t imagine being a mom now where I’m at as a mother, with my child at her first year, to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child… I just feel so blessed that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be,” Diaz said. “It’s such a blessing, it’s completely privileged, and I’m just really, really grateful.”
