Why Chris Pratt Made a Deal With God

Actor Chris Pratt says he made “deal with God” to save his son, and to make good on the deal, he now uses his platform to preach the Gospel.
In an interview with Christian Post, the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY actor shared about a vulnerable time where he ‘made a deal with God’ to save his son.
“He had all of these issues going on,” Pratt said of his son who was born 7 weeks premature in 2012. “I prayed hard to God. I was in a season of transition spiritually at that time and didn’t quite fully understand. I made a deal with God again: ‘I’m sorry, God, here I am again, asking for your grace again.’ And He really saved my son, and that was the moment [my faith] was cemented. My heart softened, and my faith hardened, that was the moment that I was like, ‘Moving forward, I’m going to give my platform to God.’”
Pratt explained how prior to this miracle, he wavered in his faith throughout his life.
“The first time I walked up to the church altar and got on my knees and cried, I was a child. The next time I did it, I was still a child, I was 19. And then the next time I did it, I was in my 30s,” he explained. “I’d make promises, but I didn’t keep them. I said, ‘God, save me in this moment, and I’ll give you my life.’ And then He did, and I was unburdened from the weight of my shame, my guilt and my sin. And then months later, maybe a year later, two years later, I’m off doing the same stuff that got me down the wrong path in the first place. The sinful, broken nature of humans was living in my heart.”
Pratt’s faith is so prominent that it’s one of the defining characteristics his co-stars and friends notice.
“My brother, Chris Pratt [is a] real Christian who lives by principle, has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude,” said fellow actor Robert Downey Jr.
Pratt has also been open about how his faith carries him through some hard days, including when he faced backlash for thanking his wife for a healthy baby.

Pratt shares that the backlash “really bothered” him because his son would read it one day. He revealed that he cried, saying, “it’s etched in digital stone.”
“I went to bed last night really kind of upset and depressed,” Pratt said in an Instagram story following the incident. “And I woke up feeling crappy and I didn’t want to work out.”
But after listening to Christian music and going for a run, “It felt amazing,” Pratt said. “That moment, it really captured me and so I just want to say, all glory to God.”
He encouraged any of his followers who are struggling to listen to worship music and exercise.
“It felt like there was another in the fire standing next to me,” Pratt explained about this experience.
