Why Did SPIDER-MAN 4’s Premiere Date Get Pushed?
By Movieguide® Contributor
SPIDER-MAN 4’s release date has been pushed back to accommodate a different Tom Holland movie premiering next year.
Sony Pictures announced that the untitled SPIDER-MAN 4 project will now premiere on July 31, 2026, a week later than initially planned, per The Hollywood Reporter. Why? Another project featuring Holland arrives earlier that month.
Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY will premiere July 17, 2026, and it’s largely assumed that Sony pushed SPIDER-MAN 4 to give both movies room to top the box office in their respective opening weekends.
Holland is part of THE ODYSSEY’s cast, along with SPIDER-MAN costar and his fiancé Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.

Variety reported that Nolan’s ODYSSEY will be partly filmed in Sicily and will use cutting-edge IMAX tools.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film THE ODYSSEY is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” a post on X from Universal Pictures reads. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
Details on SPIDER-MAN 4 are a little more scarce. Holland and Zendaya are confirmed to return, and during an appearance on the “Rich Roll Podcast,” the actor shared that they had both read the movie’s script.
“We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent,” Holland said. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly in 2023 that the studio “[has] the story.”
“We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now,” he continued.
