Why Gary Sinise Calls Movieguide® Awards ‘A Blessing’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Gary Sinise recently shared that he loves “what’s happening in the faith community in the movie business.”

“I’m a big fan of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE with Jimmy Stewart,” he told Movieguide® at this year’s Movieguide® Awards when asked about his favorite movies. “It’s a wonderful movie with a wonderful message.”

Sinise added, “I love what the Erwin brothers are doing. The Erwin brothers are pals of mine…they’re got a couple of great projects in the pipeline that they’re working on.”

“I love what’s happening in the faith community in the movie business, like with THE CHOSEN,” Sinise continued. “Dallas Jenkins is a very good friend of mine…Jonathan Roumie, very good friend of mine, and he’s just fantastic in that series. I love what they’re doing. I love that quality movies are being made in that sort of faith genre.”

He continued, “[Dr. Ted Baehr] and everyone at Movieguide® here have been championing these stories for many, many years, and I think that’s been a blessing [and] a little bit unique here in Hollywood. But that’s why they’re so successful — they’re kind of unique and stand on their own.”

Sinise recently opened up about his decision to leave Hollywood in 2021 following his wife and son’s cancer diagnoses.

“We were in the cancer fight during that time,” he explained, adding that the nearby presence of his band, the Lt. Dan Band also made the move more attractive.

Sinise might have left California, but when the devastating Los Angeles wildfires raged earlier this year, he quickly flew in to lend a hand.

“Had the honor of #ServingHeroes at LA County Fire Department Camp #2, the incredible team responsible for battling the Eaton Fire,” he posted on Instagram. “This area is a special place for me as I lived here when FORREST GUMP came out. Thanks to the amazing firefighters who gave me a tour of the area, heart goes out to all who lost homes and the families impacted by this horrific fire. I’m deeply grateful for the first responders who work tirelessly to keep these communities safe. And thanks my pals who came out to help dish out the food. Proud to stand with these heroes.”
