Why Mark Wahlberg Wakes Up at 3:30 a.m. to Pray
By Movieguide® Contributor
Would you wake up at 3:30 a.m. to pray? Mark Wahlberg does.
The actor shared his disciplined early morning routine and why it’s so important to him in an interview with the TODAY SHOW.
“Everything revolves around my faith, right?” the actor began. “So, I just get up, express my gratitude and then, you know — a constant reminder of all the things that I need to do to continue to grow and evolve and do my part. I’m very fortunate, very blessed, and those gifts have been given to me to utilize in ways that will help and better others.”
Wahlberg is a practicing Catholic and believes fasting, working out and prayer all require discipline.
“Discipline has always been important for me in life,” he explained. “Once I started getting into movies and transitioned from music, I realized I need a lot of discipline in my life, and that discipline has afforded me so many other things.”
Wahlberg explained that despite being in Hollywood, which may have a reputation for being anti-Christian, he will never turn away from his faith in God.
“I don’t want to jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith,” he said previously. “That’s an even bigger sin. You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but I cannot deny my faith. It’s important for me to share that with people. But I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”
“There’s nothing more important in the world than God,” Wahlberg shared with Celebrity Evangelist, “[I] can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass.”
