Why Philippians 4:13 Encourages Actor Colin Ford: ‘God is With Me’
By Movieguide® Contributor
WE BOUGHT A ZOO actor Colin Ford recently opened up about his faith and what it means to truly follow God.
“Philippians 4:13 is one of my favorite verses—I can do all things through Christ who strengthens us,” he told Christian Headlines. “For me, those are like my power words. Whenever I’m feeling anxious or down…I say those words to myself, and I remind myself that God is with me at all times.”
That verse encouraged Ford when he auditioned for his newest project, THE HILL, after he saw that it was quoted in the script.
“I already had that verse in my bio before I read the script,” Ford said of the audition.
“And it was kind of that moment, where I was like, ‘This is me. This movie is me. I have to be Ricky, I have to do it. There’s nothing that’s gonna stop me from doing this film.’… I just felt very convicted by that verse. I felt very fortunate and divine, like there’s some sort of divine intervention happening. It was meant to be.”
The movie follows Rickey Hill, a young man who “shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease” and overcomes his disability to play Major League Baseball. The movie is set to release August 25.
Despite his successes, Ford also recognizes his imperfection and admits that there were “times in my life where I wasn’t practicing my faith” and “times when I went out, and I was being a crazy teenager and did stuff that I’m not proud of.”
“But I came back to the Lord,” he expressed. “and came back to my own faith and my own understanding of the type of person that I want to be and the type of family that I want to create for myself in the future and how I want to live my life.”
Ford began acting at a young age and gained recognition for his role as young Sam Winchester in the TV series SUPERNATURAL. Additionally, he voices the character Jake in the animated series CAPTAIN JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES.
Ford has been part of other productions, including WE BOUGHT A ZOO, PUSH, JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, DISCONNECT and CAPTAIN MARVEL and recently starred in Pureflix’s A THOUSAND TOMORROWS.
Movieguide® previously reported on A THOUSAND TOMORROWS:
Through his relationship with Ali, Ford said that his character, Cody, also learns more about himself over the course of the show.
“I think that he learns that he has to undergo some internal changes in his thinking and in his response to what other people have done to him in his life,” Ford said. “I think that his relationship with Ali allows him to open the door for forgiveness to his father which is huge.”
“Cody also realizes that despite how great he thinks riding angry might make him, there might be another way,” he added.
