JC Shirer, son of actress Priscilla Shirer, knows it’s important to surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you, especially at a young age.

Aside from Jesus, the public speaker, podcast host, full-time college student and Liberty University basketball player looks up to several different role models.

“There’s not many people who kind of combine what I do because I’m a real estate investor — that’s where the entrepreneur part comes from. I invest in a lot of real estate and do that type of stuff. So, there’s not many people who do real estate, are public speakers as well and are Christians in that world,” Shirer told Movieguide®’s Kaelii Williams.

“So I have a mix of some people. Myron Golden is a guy who’s great with business and finance, but he ties scripture into it — he’s great at that,” the basketball player said. “He’s so good. And then obviously Eric Thomas, one of my mentors — ET, the Hip-Hop Preacher. He’s one of my mentors. He’s a great public speaker and all the things.”

Shirer, who’s in his 20s, has fun trying to do all the things he’s involved in at a young age, whereas most of his mentors are in their 50s or 60s.

“So it gets super cool to me because I’m trying to figure out — and I’m so driven and passionate — how can I do it soon?” he said. “Not in a rush but so that I can impact people like me — young black, white, whatever race — just younger people who are in college and are getting that cultural idea of, ‘Oh yeah, it’s okay for me to waste my life right now because life will start at 30.’ That whole thing that I hate.”

One way JC Shirer makes an impact right now is through his social media. With nearly 24k followers, he often posts clips of his podcast along with different Bible verses or things that God has put his heart to share.

One post reads, “A yes from God blesses you. A no from God blesses. A wait from God blesses you.”

Another says, “Thought: The success that one is able to acquire means nothing if it does not positively impact others or you can share the benefits of your success with the people around you.”

“Hypothetically, if someone becomes a successful entrepreneur, but their product or service does not positively impact others, they aren’t generous with their profits and their family or friends don’t benefit from the entrepreneur’s creativity, you’ve become a successfully selfish businessman,” the post continues.

With basketball, school, a podcast to host and a slew of other endeavors, Shirer is on track to impact the next generation and become someone that people look to for mentorship.
