Why Ryan Gosling Puts His Family First

By Movieguide® Contributor

Ryan Gosling revealed that when he thinks about his plans for the future, he wants to prioritize his family and give his daughters the attention they deserve.

“I often think about what’s going to matter to me on my deathbed, that I did and that I didn’t do,” Gosling told Men’s Health. “I don’t think I’ll regret anything professionally, but I do think when it comes to Eva [Mendes] and the girls, they come first.”

“I don’t know, it’s probably not a good thing that I go deathbed, but it’s helpful for me,” he continued. “Anytime I’m struggling I just think about whether it’s going to matter to me then because, yeah, this whole thing can be distorting.”

Gosling and his wife, Mendes, recently prioritized their daughters by moving them out of L.A. to have a better childhood.

“For them, the most important job is their girls. Everything else comes second,” an anonymous source told PEOPLE in March. “And their girls are thriving. They left L.A. to live a bit further north, away from Hollywood. They didn’t want the girls to grow up around other celebrity kids…They care so much about their marriage and just want their girls to live a happy life.”

While Gosling has continued his career as a Hollywood actor since having his daughters, Mendes has given up her time in Hollywood to stay close to their kids.

“I’m so lucky, and I was like, if I can have this time with my children…and I still worked, I just didn’t act because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away,” Eva told the TODAY show, per Fox News Digital.

“It was almost like a non-verbal agreement,” she continued. “It was like, ‘Okay, he’s going to work and I’m going to work, I’m just going to work here.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Gosling’s commitment to his family:

Though Ryan Gosling is one of Hollywood’s most prominent stars, his first focus is his family, followed by his acting career.

Gosling had been a mainstay in the entertainment industry for over a decade when he decided to take a four-year acting break in 2018 to spend time with his daughters.

“Just to be with my family. I didn’t want to miss anything,” Gosling told Variety. “My priorities changed, and I wanted to be with my kids. It’s going super fast. I hear the clock ticking. I don’t know how much time I’m going to get, and I don’t want to spend it in the wrong place. I know I’m not spending it in the wrong place if I’m with my family.”
