Why These 4 Hollywood Stars Slammed Plastic Surgery
By Movieguide® Contributor
A growing list of Hollywood women are voicing their concerns about plastic surgery.
Supermodel Christy Turlington is one of many stars who has spoken out against the procedures.
“Women who have stayed away from augmentation of themselves—those are the women I really admire. I love seeing a real face. A face of someone who’s lived life,” Turlington explained. “I will be one of those faces. I am one of those faces.”
She isn’t the only major star who has expressed opinions on plastic surgery.
Kate Winslet said plastic surgery “goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty. I’ll never give in. I am an actress. I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face.”
The TITANIC actress also joked to People, “I have the kind of wrinkles that are here to stay now… Not just the ones where you wake up in the morning and you go, ‘Oh, that will go away in two hours’ time.’ No, they’re there. That’s the way that it is.”
Actress Julia Roberts also spoke about cosmetic procedures, saying it’s “unfortunate” that “women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons.”
“I want my kids to know when I’m [upset], when I’m happy and when I’m confounded,” she continued. “Your face tells a story…and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office.”
In another interview, Roberts said, “By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift. But I’ve told Lancôme [she is the face of the makeup brand] that I want to be an aging model—so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I’m over 50.”
Meryl Streep called plastic surgery “not a good thing” and “an interruption in communication” with people who have gone under the knife.
“It’s like a flag in front of the view, and that, for an actor, is like wearing a veil — it’s not a good thing,” the actress explained.
