Why This Season of FIXER TO FABULOUS Is the Most Emotional to Date

Dave and Jenny Marrs explained how a night of ravaging tornadoes turned this season of FIXER TO FABULOUS into the most emotional one yet.
“This year we tried not to have too many giant projects, but we had 12 tornadoes hit our town in one night. It really impacted so many families across our community. With that, a lot of our projects changed,” Jenny told TV Insider.
“We actually started a remodel and did the walk-through and were about to start when a tornado hit,” she continued. “We went from doing a kitchen, living room, and bedroom to completely renovating the entire house and bringing it down to the studs. There was a hole in the roof and a tree through it. That was one of several that were involved with the tornadoes. The tornadoes coming through really changed the season for us as far as the scale of projects.”
Beyond renovating homes, the couple stepped up for the community and helped with the overall cleanup and repairs that needed to take place after the tornadoes swept through. That night also impacted them directly, scarring one of their young children and causing him to have nightmares for weeks.
“As a community, we stepped up and cared for one another. We were out in the days and weeks that followed helping families with cleanup whose homes had been destroyed,” Jenny recalled. “The storms really affected our entire community.”
“For us and our family, the tornado was incredibly scary,” she added. “Our youngest had a real fear of storms and had nightmares afterward. We knew how hard it was on us as a family. Our home wasn’t destroyed. We had damage, but not destroyed.”
Along with repairing the destruction caused by the tornado, Jenny and Dave highlighted two projects heading into the season. One was a 24-hour challenge to renovate a home for St. Jude’s along with a renovation for a military family that was mourning the loss of a loved one.
“We’re always pushing ourselves and being pushed by the network and the production company to figure out new and better projects that keep viewers coming back,” Dave said. “We did a project for St. Jude’s that was an entire house — kitchen, bathroom, exterior — all of it in 24 hours. That was a great challenge for Jenny and me and our company to see if it’s something we can do. Also doing it for a good cause. That was one of the many projects we did. It was a busy season. They always seemed to get busier, but it was good. We had some great projects.”
Jenny shared a glimpse of the renovation they did for the Jennings, a military family who lost their daughter, on her Instagram.
“This home is now a refuge for them – where they can breathe and heal – while continuing to honor beautiful Hannah and their family heritage for many generations before them,” she wrote.
Season 6 of FIXER TO FABULOUS debuted on Jan. 7 and will continue to premiere new episodes on HGTV.
Jenny has more than the new season in the works, though.
“She’s writing a book! Her first book, House + Love = Home: Creating Warm, Intentional Spaces for a Beautiful Life, was released in 2023, and now she’s writing a memoir,” Country Living revealed. “Jenny explained that she’s in the ‘final editing process’ and it should be out this fall!”
