This Supermodel is Dedicated to the Pro-Life Movement — Here’s Why
By Movieguide® Contributor
Supermodel Kathy Ireland dedicates her life to saving babies, but she once on the other side of the pro-life movement.
“As a young adult, I identified as a pro-choice Christian,” Ireland said last year. “It just shows you the state of our nation. How does that happen?”
But once she learned that life begins at conception, her perspective shifted, and she’s now a voice for the voiceless.
“It’s a blessing to be exposed to needs that are bigger than me, opportunities that are bigger than me,” Ireland said. “It is inarguable. When we look at the sonogram, we see this human being. We see the movement, we see the baby sucking its thumb.”
As someone active in business and the entertainment industry, Ireland knows her position is unpopular.
“I think people fear that they’re going to alienate themselves, they’re going to hurt women,” she explained. “It’s so important to dig deeply and to get your answers. People are hearing sound bites, they’re hearing propaganda in the media, and Planned Parenthood is a powerful marketing machine. It’s a big moneymaker, and it’s so important to ask the questions [and] get the answers.”
“I think that abortion can be the most convenient choice,” she continued. “Oftentimes for boyfriends, for families, for doctors, a 15-minute abortion, 1,800 bucks versus being with a woman nine months, and babies can come at inconvenient times. It can be more liberating for society, but for women, most frequently, they carry this alone, and many women who have had abortions, they refer to the later years in life, even decades later, is the aftermath. Even for women who know that God forgives them, it can be hard to forgive themselves.”
“When we’re talking about abortion, it’s not a woman’s rights issue; it’s a human rights crisis,” Ireland emphasized. “It’s so important for women to know that there is nothing too big for God.
Movieguide® previously reported on Ireland’s faith and pro-life beliefs:
…as she read the Bible more and her relationship with God deepened, she realized that the pro-choice position is antithetical to God’s word.
“We’ve got to wake up our churches,” Ireland said. “We’ve got to wake up!”
Although Ireland is pro-life, she recognizes that women who have had abortions need to understand God’s forgiveness offered in the gospel.
“To the women who’ve had abortions—the estimation is one-in-four—just know that nothing is too big for God,” she expressed. “We bring it to him; we repent. He redeems and restores.”
In February, at the Movieguide® Awards, Ireland told Fox News that Jesus is the most important relationship in her life.
“The most important relationship in my life is with Jesus and though I became a Christian at 18…I am so grateful that God is so patient and so gracious,” Ireland declared.
